Do you have what it takes to save the DC Universe… or conquer it? eu.playstation.com has the tools to help you take your first steps into this incredible universe.

What is DC Universe Online?

DC Universe Online (DCUO) is a massively multiplayer online action game (MMOAG), where you join thousands of others on PlayStation Network or PC and take on the role of a hero or a villain in the DC Universe.

What’s a massively multiplayer online action game?

A massively multiplayer online action game (MMOAG) throws you into a huge interactive environment where you take control of a character and engage with other players, whether chatting and creating new friendships, teaming up on adventures or taking part in fierce battles.

Because the world you’re playing in is constantly online, it’s always evolving – you may go away for a few weeks, come back and discover whole new areas or people. The more you keep coming back, the more you’ll find and enjoy.

What makes DC Universe Online unique compared to massively multiplayer online role playing games?

With an emphasis on action, DC Universe Online takes the massively multiplayer online role playing (MMORPG) genre and supercharges it for a fast-paced, combat-focused experience which has you feeling like a truly superpowered adventurer. Complementing this is a system which requires less time levelling up your character to become as powerful as others, meaning you’ll spend more time enjoying the world around you and your new abilities.

There’s a large amount of customisation that fans of MMORPGs will enjoy, allowing you to create your very own, unique DC-style character and team up with other players to create Legions (Villains) or Leagues (Heroes) and shape your destiny alongside your friends and the many heroes and villains of the DC Universe. Speaking of which…

How does the DC Comics mythos fit into the game?

DC Universe Online flies you into a world where dozens of popular heroes and villains from the DC Comics universe can become your most loyal teammates or hated enemies. Ever wanted to fight side-by-side with the likes of Batman, Superman or Wonder Woman? What about joining in with the diabolical deeds of Lex Luthor and The Joker? DC Universe Online gives you that chance. Rather than play as one of the iconic heroes, you create your own character and get the chance to become a legend yourself – for good or evil. It’s your choice.

Well-known locations such as Metropolis and Gotham City are all available to explore, so there’s the potential to take part in some of your favourite battles from the comic books, with you as the star. It isn’t just about big destructive brawls, however. Keeping it all together with a strong narrative thread are a number of story driven adventures created by respected DC Comics writers Marv Wolfman and Geoff Johns, while the character designs are based on the popular pencils of artist Jim Lee. So if you’re a superhero fan, you can expect an authentic DC Universe experience.

What sort of powers can you use to create your own hero or villain?

An incredible array of powers are at your disposal to ensure you stand out amongst the thousands of other players looking to make a name for themselves in DC Universe Online. A combination of flight, super-speed, elemental powers, tech suits, gadgets, super-strength and other powers can be yours. How you wield such great power is entirely up to you.

What do you need to get started?

Due for release early 2011 on PlayStation 3 and PC and playable across PlayStation Network, DC Universe Online will come with a subscription package to keep you connected to the game’s online environment – and to keep your legendary adventure continuing.

Be sure to come back and check out more features on DC Universe Online at eu.playstation.com soon.
