BSNL Unwires WiMAX in rural India
BSNL launched India’s first commercial WiMAX service on December 13 to begin bringing mobile broadband connectivity to rural India. Analysts predict India will be the biggest base on earth for WiMAX by 2012. Besides high-speed broadband Internet access, rural citizens can benefit from e-government services including bill payment, vehicle registration and issuance of birth certificates, as well as telemedicine, tele-education and banking services.
