Google launches Instant Search

September 9, 2010 by | Comments

Google Instant is a new search enhancement that shows results as you type, pushing the limits of technology and infrastructure,  will help people get better search results, faster, showing a results page while you type.

The most obvious change is that users will get to the proper content  faster than before because they won’t have to finish typing a full search term, or even press “search.”

Another benefit is that seeing results as you type will help formulate a better search term by providing instant feedback, allowing search adaption on the fly until the results match exactly what users are looking for.

According to Google, the benefits will lead into faster searches by predicting user search and showing results before finishing typing saving 2-5 seconds per search.

Moreover, even when not knowing exactly what user is looking for, predictions will help guiding the search, while the top prediction is shown in grey text directly in the search box, allowing users to stop typing as soon as the proper results are shown.

Now results appear instantly as you type, helping users see where you’re headed, every step of the way.
