Tokyo press conference, Sony announces the Next Generation Portable (PSP 2) entertainment system.
Scheduled to arrive at the end of 2011 it is claimed to be designed to offer unmatched interactive entertainment. The new system offers a combination of rich gaming and social connectivity options maximising Sony’s experience gained from PSP and PlayStation 3.
The NGP sports Wireless and 3G network connectivity, including various applications, NGP will allow multiple connectivity options, such as sharing and playing with friends wherever they are.
OLED Multi Touch User Interface: NGP has a multi touch, 5-inch OLED front display; coupled with a multi touch pad on the rear NGP offers unprecedented game play allowing playing “in a three dimension-like motion”, through “touch, grab, trace, push and pull” hand movements.
High performance CPU/GPU
Super Oval Design and Dual Analog Sticks: Super Oval Design form factor was chosen by Sony to fit comfortably in users’ hands. For the first time, a portable console will feature two analog sticks.
LiveArea: New NGP titles will benefit from a multiplayer space called LiveArea, that will also include access to the latest information on games from developers and publishers via PlayStation Network.
An activity log will update constantly users about counterparts who are playing the same game.
Flash Memory Medium
NGP will adopt a new game medium, a small, flash memory based card, dedicated for NGP software titles.
Two Cameras, compass & gyroscope
NGP will be equipped with two cameras, on the front and on the rear plus 3 motion sensors, gyroscope, accelerometer and electronic compass, designed to allow a real life gaming experience.
