Thoughtful in the Web 20th anniversary, I’ve been assaulted by old Internet memories.
I still remember those wobbly modem sessions at hundreds/thousands kbps, with continuous disconnections, CRC errors and… WHOA! What a feeling! The appeal was there, the mental constrains of clumky BBS’s was over, those magic hyperlinks so useful and comfortable.
It was the time when we started meeting those little strange animals Gopher, Lynx… e-mail, Telnet & Usenet… Remember Mosaic? That MR Andreessen battling in the browser wars? What happened to him?
Yes the web is partying it’s anniversary, and who knows how many people in those early days would have bet a penny on it’s success. Bill?
